Totnes, River Dart

At the Mill Tail the river divides around Vire Island. Totnes is a very attractive and unspoiled mediaeval town, which rises up a steep main street to a hilltop sur-mounted by the remains of the Norman Mote and Bailey castle. There is an Elizabethan museum, and 900 year old Guild Hall and a museum of period costume. A bustling town with pubs, restaurants, bistros and banks. Several supermarkets, including Safeway, open 0800 hours until late, and from 1000 - 1600 on Sundays.
